King Too Strong at Mineral Wells.

With Plymouth cancelled after two separate attempts to get the race completed, the team traveled to Mineral Wells, West Virginia for the traditional half-mile battle at the back-country West Virginia Motor Speedway. Chris still holds control of the championship, and is thrilled to be in a much better position than he was at this time in 1998.

"We struggled a little bit during the evening, but not too bad. I finished second in my heat race behind an inspired Kenny Coolbeth, who caught and passed me about the halfway point and set sail. We were able to catch back up to him a little bit, but were never a serious threat to him in the heat race. We got ready for the main event and made a couple of little tweaks to the chassis, and got a decent start, got off the line third, and was following Rich King and Scott Parker early on. About halfway, I was able to get by Parker, but that Rich King, he was gone. There was no catching him that night. I maintained a fairly equal gap with him the last half of the race, I'd cut a bike length or two here and then I'd give it back up. Had I gotten a little inspired maybe earlier in the race we could have given him run for it, but for the most part, he was unbeatable on that particular night. We'll take second and move to the next one."

Another pea gravel half-mile awaits the team at Lima, Ohio, in the heart of 'Parker Country.'
