"Del Mar was probably the best conditions we've ever had there, but they obviously still weren't ideal for a season ending race. We were pretty fast all day long. We were good in the scratch heats, won our heat race. Despite the fact that we got a terrible start - in the main event I was on the front row but got off the line something like ninth - I worked my way up into contention, got as high as third, and was right on Will Davis. Along came Nicky Hayden around the outside of both of us in turn three with about a lap and a half to go and gave Parker a run for it. I ended up fourth. It was one of those deals where we gained on 'em and gained on 'em, but we ran out of time. Had I gotten a better start, things might have been different. The bad start's my own fault, nobody else's.
"We're currently scouting the corporate world, looking for money, trying to sign on a title sponsor for the Harley-Davidson of Sacramento team. Things are looking pretty good so far. We have a lot of feelers out, both in the motorcycle world and outside the industry. We're hoping something will come of that in the near future. Even if that doesn't pan out, the H-D of Sacramento team and myself, along with Big Valley Ford and Phoenix Racing, are going to go out and defend our title with honor and hopefully be able to hold on to it for another year.
