May 7, 2000 - Wrenchead.com Texas International Speedway Half-Mile
The opening round of the wrenchead.com Dirt Track Series and the first dirt track event in many years for PACE saw difficult track conditions greet the field after heavy rains soaked the surface foe several days before the event. The track crew did their best to whip the oval into shape, and the riders took to the track and fought it out, although the conditions were less than ideal.
Chris had to go to a semi to transfer to the main, insuring only that he would have to start from the third row and have to chase down the leaders. After a red flag on lap nineteen restarted the field single file for a six-lap dash, Chris moved up to capture fourth after 25 laps.
"Well, I wasn't totally disappointed with fourth place. Obviously, we would have rather not had to ride the semi and had a start a little further up on the grid and maybe had a chance to run with the guys up front, but I thought we had a great race considering where we started on a track that was hard to pass. Anytime you're on a one-line track and you're starting on the third row, you know you've got your work cut out for you. We were able to work our way up to fourth place by race's end. We got a little break with the red flag with six laps to go. That allowed us to gain some track position and allowed us to work on few guys more toward the front. I believe we pulled a good finish out of what was potentially could have been a bad finish."
