With a fourth-place finish and a win by Will Davis, Carr's point lead shrunk to only one point. The AMA series travels next to Loews Motor Speedway in Charlotte on July 22. The Grand National regulars trek southward for a wrenchead.com F-USA event at the Oklahoma City half-mile this coming weekend.
"Well, things went pretty good in Kansas, considering. We didn't have the best of starts in the main event, got off the line about seventh from the front row. We got to the front row by winning our heat race. Kansas was a really fast race track, a smooth race track, the only down side of it was that it was a little bit narrow.(groove) and it made passing a little bit difficult. We were fortunate enough to gain one position early in the race when Joe Kopp slipped off the groove. I was following Willie McCoy and Brian Bigelow for what seemed like about ten laps or so, and was finally able to get by them. By that time, the leaders (Davis, Coolbeth, and Hacker) had pretty much checked out- they had about a straightaway on me. We were starting to make a little headway, make a little dent in their lead, and came up a little short at the end. That's the way it goes, one of those weeks. Obviously Davis has taken a big chunk out of our point lead, but we look forward to going to his home state of North Carolina (Loews Motor Speedway, June 22)and getting some of those points back."
Any thoughts on this weekend's upcoming PACE event at Oklahoma City?
"I look forward to going to Oklahoma City, a race we won on the AMA series last year, and hopefully we can get a win streak going there just like we did at Lima. We look forward to moving up in the points standings in that particular series. We've only had one complete race out of ten so far and we look forward to going home and racing in the nice hot Oklahoma weather."
You like that hot weather, don't you?
"Yeah, I hope it's about 120 and no wind when we get there. I like conditions to be as extreme as possible- the rougher, the tougher, the better. Makes you concentrate."
