Running a Solid Fifth, Carr Goes Down on Oil and Claws his Way Back to Twelfth on Restart.

Returning to the AMA series after last week's PACE event, Chris hoped to put a larger cushion between himself and title rival Will Davis at what might be considered the 'home track' for Davis, who hails from nearby Goldsboro, NC. Davis, unable to race due to a head injury from a softball game, was absent, and Carr looked set to solidify his points lead.

While running a solid fifth in the main, Carr hit some oil on the track with just a couple laps to go, crashing unhurt. Restarting from the back of the field, Chris passed five riders, the checkered flag flew, and the team had to settle for a twelfth-place finish.

"Charlotte didn't end up as good as we thought it was going to. We got the day off to a decent start with a win in our heat race. Didn't run so well in our qualifying heat, but ended up winning our heat race and sat on the pole for the main event. Then I got an absolutely horrible start for the main event- I blew my pole position out of the water by getting off the line about thirteenth. Worked my way up to a solid fifth place right when the red flag came out when we hit the oil in turns three and four. We went down, as did Geo Roeder, and the red flag came out. As per the rulebook, they single-filed us back up after they cleaned up the oil. We came from the back of the pack and picked off five guys before the checkered flag came out. We were certainly disappointed with that result, we should have had a better result, but it was one of those deals where a string of bad luck is still with us, and hopefully we can change that in the next week or so."

You're headed to the high banks of Eldora now- how do you see your chances there?

"I haven't won Eldora in the past, but we've run some real solid races there and we look forward to doing well there."

You've maintained your point lead, as Will Davis is injured.

"Things are looking okay. Had Will Davis been competing (at Charlotte) things would have been a little bit closer in points and probably would have taken the point lead. As of right now, he might not be at Eldora, so that will allow us to possibly strengthen our point lead, but I much prefer that he be on the race track. We certainly don't want our competition sitting on the sidelines. We don't like having to chase points that way, but hopefully, he'll be back on the track real soon."
