Hall of Fame Race Nets Only Fifth for H-D of Sacramento Team.

With $100,000 up for grabs in the third annual Hall of Fame Race, hopes were high for an excellent finish. Adding to the motivation was the fact that this year's race would also pay points toward the AMA championship. Unfortunately, Chris was a bit off form, finishing fifth.

Chris fought tooth and nail with Harley-Davidson's Rich King through the last half of the race, and the two veterans were unable to make up much ground on the lead pack just a second or two in front of them. Will Davis won the event, and at the end of the day, Davis and Joe Kopp were tied for second just two points behind Chris.

"It seemed like we were going pretty good, but…I didn't get a very good start and it took me a while to get rolling. I never really was a threat in that race. We just weren't on our game this week. A combination of a few problems with the bike and I didn't really start riding good until the last half of the Sunday event. It's one of those things where some weeks go that way, I guess. We'll lick our wounds and go on to the next event."

You and King looked like you were slowing each other up trying to catch up to the lead pack.

"At the end of the race, definitely. I felt like I was getting through the corners a lot better, and if he had maybe followed me one time through a corner that we might have narrowed the gap to the guys in front of us. He was having a big struggle coming off of both corners (four and two) and he had a stronger bike. I could get by him toward the end of the straightaway, but I could never get enough gap on him to where I could lead him for a whole straightaway and then run the corner the way I needed to (in order to) gain on the guys up front. That might have cost us a little bit, but he's a racer too. He's trying to race for position and I can't blame him for that."
