Carr Survives Daytona, Leaves with Seventh Place After Scratching Back From Dead Last.

The Grand National at the Bike Week Short Track is unique in character in comparison to any other race during the season - a quarter-mile, limestone surface, unpredictable Daytona springtime weather - and is not always an indicator of the way things might go later in the year.

After having to ride a semi, and having to win that semi to make the main, Chris started in the back row in the Grand National. Carr finally got a decent start on the night, but he stalled the motor in turn three on lap two and fell back to last. On a track where passing was difficult at best, Carr slid past nine riders and salvaged a seventh place and the valuable points that go with it.

"I'm satisfied with our result - obviously I'm never happy with seventh, but considering the way things went for us tonight - having to run a semi and having to win the semi to get in the feature, and starting from the third row of the Daytona Short Track is not an ideal place, and not getting good starts. I got a good start in the feature, but I made a mistake on the second lap and stalled the motor going into turn three coming in on guys. It was kind of like Peoria last year. I was fortunate enough to get the thing bumped off and refired in last position. From that point on, to pick off nine guys and head toward the front - I was real pleased with how it went. Obviously we would have liked to have been further up and in better contention to possibly win, or maybe even a podium, but considering how things went, we'll take it and move on to the next one."

How important is this race for the rest of the season?

"It doesn't have much effect on momentum because we're off for five weeks before we race again. Where we're going next time in Houston is a half-mile and we're on 750s. Daytona is always important because there's a lot of industry people here and there's a lot of pressure to perform well. You've got to have a perfect night to win here. Davis had a perfect night here, just like last year when Poovey had a perfect night. We had a sub-par night and finished seventh, so we're pleased with that. We build from the positives and not the negatives, and move on."
