Carr Gets Second Win of 2001, First Hagerstown Win Ever.

The Hagerstown Half-Mile is the nearest Grand National event to Chris' Pennsylvania home, just a few hours drive south in the rolling hills of northern Maryland. Heavy rains postponed Saturday night's event until Sunday afternoon, when the weather relented and they were able to get the race underway. Chris had never won a Grand National here - until today.

Carr looked strong all day, winning his heat race handily. After an early battle with Joe Kopp, he pulled away and took the victory, his second win of 2001. Now trailing Kopp by a mere five points in the standings, Chris and the team look forward to racing for the top spot in the standings over the next few weeks.

"I've been coming here since 1985, and I've never won a National here. We were pretty good all day - won the scratch heat, beat Will Davis and Kenny Coolbeth. In the heat race, got out front and holeshot it just like I did the scratch heat. Got away a little bit on Joe Kopp and maintained it all the way to the end.

"In the main event I got off the line in third behind Coolbeth and Kopp and Kopp was leading. I got by Coolbeth pretty quick and ran down Joe. He and I went back and forth for about four or five laps, and I couldn't ever make a pass stick. He'd get back under me coming off of four so I couldn't ever make a pass stick that I had on him. So I followed him around for a while and figured out a way I could get by him to where I didn't have to worry about him coming right back by me. It worked good - once I went by him going underneath in turn three, and held my line a little low and got a good run off of turn four, and pretty much immediately put a pretty good gap on him - about a second. I was able to maintain that (one) second gap all the way through to the end. It was a good run for us. We were dialed in.

"We go to Superior Wisconsin next Saturday night, a brand new track. We'll be out there trying to do it again."
