Recently, Chris became involved in a similar effort, through Ulrich's publishing network, to raise money for air fence units for dirt track. Dirt track modules are slightly different than those used for road racing, and such units are currently used in GP Speedway events in Europe.
At this writing, only $8820 had been raised for dirt track, but the word had not really gotten out. Chris would like to encourage all of you dirt track enthusiasts out there to make a contribution to this effort. It doesn't have to be your life savings - many people contributed less than $50 to the road race kitty - just make the effort and then you can say that you've actually done something to make the sport safer.
Chris has pledged $2900, and was matched by friend and sponsor John Driscoll of Yuasa and Al Sumner of the Steel Shoe Fund also matched with $2900. Suzuki's Jeff Wilson pitched in $100, and old 59R contributed $20. I called this afternoon to add my $50. Here's how you do it:
To pledge a contribution, call Roadracing World at (800) 464-8336 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, when operators will be standing by. Credit cards accepted.
Pledges can also be made by e-mailing custsvc@roadracingworld.com.
Make checks payable to Roadracing World, and mail to P.O. Box 1428, Lake Elsinore CA 92531. Money raised will be used for buying Air Module/Air Fence sections, as well as for deployment expenses and for shipping, tax and import duties.
Here's the important part: Indicate that your donation is for Air Fence for use at dirt track events.
