Bike Week Day Two: More, Better. One Win, One Third.

'It's only a Pro Am,' Carr explains, but all the fast guys showed up because it's Daytona, so a win is big and keys off the rest of the week, and the season.

The Ford QCCPO Team took the main event win in the premier 750 class, not without a fight, however. Hot shoes young and old challenged Carr, but he clung to the lead and held them all off at the stripe.

The second round of the AMA Hot Shoe Series kicks off tomorrow afternoon at the same half-mile clay oval.

"It was just a Pro-Am race, but it was an opportunity to do another shakedown on the new equipment. We had a little bit of rain earlier in the day, and they wheel-packed the thing in, and the track was actually really awesome - up until the main event. It dried out and was a little inconsistent in the main event. The track was a lot of fun.

"I won both my heats on the 500 and the 750. On the 750, however, I had to work for it. I got up under Steve Beattie on the very last lap in turns three and four, and beat him to the stripe by about a wheel. We had second-fastest heat behind (Mike) Hacker, and Paul Lynch had won his heat, he was third-fastest.

"In the 500 main event, got off the line third behind (Dan) Stanley and (Bryan) Smith, and I really had nothing for those guys. We struggled a little bit in the main event. The track had changed a little bit, and we missed our setup for the main, and those guys just rode away from me. I settled in a little bit halfway through the race and kind of held my ground with them, but never really could make any progress. Those guys inched away from me at the end.

"In the 750 main, I got off the line about third, (Kevin) Varnes was leading and Paul Lynch was second. Lynch got by Varnes and I got by Varnes, and I got by Lynch about lap three, then pretty much blocked it the rest of the way. Those guys were pretty much nose-to-tail to me. Hacker was a distant third for a while but gained on us toward the end.

"I just held my line and made 'em go around me, and they weren't able to. I've got to tip my hat to Paul Lynch, it was a real good finish for him. He ran a good ten lap race last night. He was right on my butt and I had to ride somewhat defensively to keep him behind me. Turns three and four turned into a one-line affair at the bottom, and turns one and two were kind of a free-for-all. It seemed like there was only one fast line around the racetrack in the main event, whereas in the heat races and practice you could run anywhere you wanted.

"It was a good night for us, made a little pocket money. We're going back out there today to run the Hotshoe National today, weather permitting."
