Slow Start Puts Carr Behind - Ninth Place Still Gives Team Hot Shoe Series Lead.

The Friday night Hot Shoe National at Municipal Stadium is generally a good indicator of the following night's Grand National, but track conditions can play a big part in the results as well.

Carr made it to the program by the skin of his teeth after having to go to a semi in qualifying. Getting a good start is imperative at the little limestone oval, and less than perfect qualifying form meant that that Chris would have to work for results since he was forced to start from the second row.

The Ford QCCPO team still salvaged ninth place and also left with the points lead in the Hot Shoe Series.

"Didn't get off to a very good start at all. Got fourth in my scratch heat - got blocked behind a couple of riders in the first turn fighting for position. There were some close moments and we just ended up a distant fourth in our scratch heat and had to go do a second round of qualifying. In the second round, I won my heat pretty easily and we were off to the heat races.

"When you go to the second round of qualifying in Daytona, you're starting from the second row, and we got off the line pretty decent in the heat race and worked our way up to basically a distant third and had to go to the semi.

"Semi went okay, got a decent start, pretty easily won the semi. Had a third row start for the main event.

"Took off in the main, and we got going, moved by a few guys, but I got going about five laps too late. Things started clicking for me on about lap five of the fifteen-lap main event and I started picking guys off one-by-one, and we worked our way up to ninth. Considering the short main event, it wasn't too bad."
