Carr Nets Seventh at Springfield Short Track

Once again aboard the Italian VOR at the Springfield short track bullring, Chris made the best of a mediocre start from row two to climb up to seventh by the checkered flag. Most importantly, none of the Championship contenders fared any better, increasing Carr's point lead with just five races remaining.

Sunday's action is from the Springfield Mile just around the corner, click here for details.

"The short track was pretty cool, I mean it was the highest rider count we had all year long, at 106 riders, several different brands in the main event, and the racetrack was pretty racy.

"I won my scratch heat pretty easily. Got into the heat race, got off the line third, got by (Terry) Poovey on the first lap, and Shaun Russell was going good. I chased Shaun, and chased Shaun, and chased Shaun, and made a mistake (and about bought the farm) on about lap four or five and lost a little time to him. I caught back up last lap. Going into turn three, I melted off in there on the inside, and I just couldn't hold it down and grabbed a big ol' handful in that thick cushion and Shaun got back underneath me and beat me by about a bike length at the line, so that was pretty exciting. Unfortunately for us we were sitting on a second row start for the main event.

"Didn't get a great start, probably tenth or eleventh after turns one and two. I moved up to seventh as the race went on, but that was as far as I could go. I caught the next group - (Bryan) Bigelow, (J.R.) Schnabel, and Tommy Hayden - at the end, but couldn't really do anything with them."
