Defending Ford Quality Checked/AMA Flat Track Champ Chris Carr On The Gas Preparing For Record-Tying Fifth Consecutive Flat Track Title

From XR750 and KTM bike testing in Texas to trail riding with his team, Carr sets his sites on upcoming race in Joliet, Ill., and beyond for ’05 title defense

FLEETWOOD, Pa., (May 11, 2005) – It’s been roughly ten weeks since the Ford Quality Checked Certified Pre-owned/AMA Flat Track Series got underway in Daytona Beach, Fla. Since then four-time defending champion Chris Carr and his Ford Quality Checked team have been busy getting both his XR750’s and KTM’s ready for when then season resumes on May 21st in Joliet, Ill.

"I’ve been trying to do a little bit of everything since Daytona," said Carr. "We were able to test our XR750’s down in Houston for the Hot Shoe in April, then test the KTM’s a bit as well down in Waco (Texas) later in the month. Things are going well, but I’m definitely anxious to get back on the track."

After one race Carr’s currently in second place overall, racing his KTM 450SX flat tracker onto the podium at Daytona Beach’s Municipal Stadium in the opening round of the Ford Quality Checked/AMA Flat Track Series. Said Carr of his KTM: "It’s more of a hybrid between a motocrosser and a flat track bike. Looks like a motocross bike, but rides like a flat tracker. We changed the geometry a bit and I’m liking the way it handles."

While testing down south, Carr got the team together – including teammate Willie McCoy and their tuners – Kenny Tolbert (Carr) and Bubba Bentley (McCoy) – and went trail riding on some private property down in Texas. "A great way to build team camaraderie," according to Carr.

Carr’s also been involved – as he has been for the better part of a decade – in passing along his flat track skills to younger riders at the American Supercamp (www.americansupercamp.com). A rewarding aspect of the job and duty that goes along with being a champion, Carr uses the camp to help continue the heritage of one of this country’s oldest forms of motorsport.
