Carr's 2-4 finish in the two day event that drew more than 10,000 fans to the region was good enough to move him back comfortably into the top ten of the overall standings (eighth) and within 36 points of the short track division's leader, Jake Johnson. Prior to this weekend's double header Carr was in thirteenth place in the standings (after three rounds).
"We had a good weekend. The 450s were tough to pass and we all pushed them to their limits," said Carr. "The tongues were hanging out of those things when we were done running 'em."
In Saturday's TT, in front of an estimated 7,000 fans, Carr and Johnson separated themselves from the rest of the field and battled up front for pretty much the entire main event - with Johnson ending up winning by about 1.5 seconds.
"This place (Castle Rock) was born a TT track and it was good to return after a number of years," said Carr. "It was a real fast track with one fast line and, unfortunately, I didn't get the start I wanted to that would have put me in a position to win - with both races."
Carr figured that because everybody had so much fun on Saturday, Sunday's short track crowd was down a bit (number-wise). Still, he said the racing was just as good - if not better than Saturday - with first through fifth place being divided by one second across the line.
This weekend (Aug. 19-20) marks the AMA Ford QC Flat Track Championship series' return to the oldest continually running dirt track race in the world - the legendary Peoria TT, hosted by the Peoria Motorcycle Club (which was founded in the late 1920s). Carr has won the event a number of times and tops a list of Peoria TT winners that include current World GP points leader Nicky Hayden, former World GP champ Kenny Roberts and flat track legends Ricky Graham, Jay Springsteen and Mert Lawwill.
"The key to Peoria is to get a good start and set a pace that nobody else can match," said Carr, who finished fourth in the TT last year (and last won it in '01). "I haven't been able to set that pace the last few years, so hopefully I'll do that on Sunday."
Make that "On Any Sunday," Chris, as the Peoria TT - made famous by the epic aforementioned motorcycle documentary by Bruce Brown - is set to go off big this Sunday, Aug. 19. Gates open at 8 a.m., qualifying begins at noon and the flag drops on the Peoria TT at 2 p.m. For more information on this "Don't Miss" event, link up to: http://www.peoriatt.net
