It was an ignominious end to an up and down season as Chris was forced to retire and watch from the sidelines while title rival Kenny Coolbeth took the win at the rescheduled Scioto Downs half-mile this past Saturday. Chris' XR750 Harley broke very early on in the main event, cut to just one cylinder, and Chris pulled it into the pits, ending the Ford Quality Checked Team's season and any chance to challenge for the Twins title. As the race was rescheduled due to weather from last month, Chris was also forced to miss out on the Mettet Supermoto event in Belgium this past weekend, but the good news is that he is off to Europe tonight to join the rest of the family and enjoy a much-deserved vacation. Hats off to Chris and his entire crew for all the hard work and dedication this year.
"Heat race, I got an okay start, I passed (Jared) Mees and Tim Eades first lap, went to the high line, ran that for about the first three or four laps, got a little bit of a gap on the guys, then probably came down a little early and Mees caught up to me and hounded me for a while and made a good pass, got a good run on me out of turn four on the last lap coming up to the checkered flag and nipped me at the line, so that kind of put us on the second row for the main event, which doesn't help matters when the guys you've got to beat are on the front row.
"Got an average start, was running about eighth or ninth, and coming off of turn four, first lap, the thing probably dropped a valve, we're not sure exactly what it was, but it made a lot of noise and went on one cylinder, and my night was pretty much done at that point. That's the way it goes. We've had a great run, a lot of years with very few mechanicals, we've had a few this year that kind of caught up with us and cost us, but (Kenny) Coolbeth and those guys had their share of troubles as well, and I've got to congratulate them - they rode ride like champions this year and they deserve the title."
