Team Sees Light at the End of the Tunnel

2007 has not been a typical Chris Carr season so far. The normally dominant seven-time Champion has been relegated to occasional mid-pack status and leaving some wondering where the speed had gone.

Chris and his team have been working long and hard to solve some handling issues and the first real sign of improvement may have been his pole position at Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda. Although Carr wasn't able to capitalize in the main event, look for more typical Carr-like results as 2007 continues.

"We were greeted with a really cool race track, as always. The Sawyer family does a heckuva job there, you know, it's a top-notch half-mile facility, so I've got to tip my hat to them for providing us a great place to race.

"The day started off well, went through qualifying really well, was able to knock off a pretty good lap to get pole position for the first heat race. It's been a while since I was fast qualifier, and that felt good. We had made some positive changes to the bike over the course of the week, and we felt like we had a pretty good motorcycle under us.

"Heat race, I kind of spoiled my pole position start, didn't get off into turn one very good at all, and I found myself running about seventh early on, and playing catch up. I was able to move forward and get up to third for a direct transfer to the main event, but found myself on the outside of the second row for the main event and got a terrible start, and it was one of those tracks last night where, if you didn't get a good start, you were in trouble. I was running around in about eleventh or twelfth, something like that , and there was nothing but a freight train. It was a three or four foot wide groove going around the track, and there was no way I could make any passes, and I kind of actually ended up losing touch with the group trying to gain time on them and ended up eleventh.

"It was one of those deals, just not our night. But we feel good about the direction we're headed with the motorcycles, and look forward to going to Greenville (Ohio) and throwing some limestone around and get back up toward the front."
