The start lights became the obstacle. Chris jumped his first start in who-knows-when and was forced to the penalty line. Only a typically heroic Carr charge brought the Pennsylvanian to twelfth at the checkered flag.
Next: Peoria and very familiar ground. Chris and The Ford Quality Checked Team look for victory in Illinois.
"They watered the thing before the heat races, and the thing would come around and that was the case. In the heat race I got a decent start, second off the line behind Shaun Russell, and Jared Mees came around me on lap one, and we went to go past Russell and I slotted in behind Mees at the same time. I stayed right on Mees' butt for a couple of laps, I tried a couple of things, but I made a couple of mistakes, and he got away, and I finished a lonely second. I guess I pushed him hard enough that he was on pole, and that gave me a front row start for the main event.
"We line up for the main event, and Kevin Varnes triggered the red light and brought me with him (laughs). I got put on the penalty line for the first time in a long time. I got a so-so start, charged real hard early on and got by a handful of guys. Along the way, I lost a few positions later on when the track slicked off, and I ended up a disappointing twelfth. Just one of those nights. One of those disappointing weeks. We'll go to Peoria with our heads held high and see if we can shake the gremlins.
"We're comfortable that the stock KTM we'll be good for Peoria."
